
After an exciting first few weeks of welcoming students back to Northern Michigan University’s campus, it’s safe to say that campus (and Marquette) have truly come alive. With the hustle and bustle of moving in and new classes settling down, here are 10 things to do on or around campus this fall that you won’t want to miss!
A full course load and homework can get overwhelming. Try checking out some of the gorgeous hiking trails around Marquette. With so many options like Dead River Falls, Wetmore Landing, Sugarloaf, Hogback, Presque Isle and more there’s plenty of trails for you to decompress between classes or after a long day of hitting the books.

To kick off NMU’s Homecoming Weekend Innovate Marquette Smartzone and Invent@NMU are inviting you to tour our office Friday, September 23 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. for a casual networking event inviting NMU alumni and the entire Wildcat community to check out our new space, meet our team, and learn how we can offer support to start or scale your business.
Join us for a weekend of celebration welcoming our Wildcats back to Northern starting on Friday, September 23 beginning at 10:00 a.m. there will be events like the Wildcat Welcome, Virtual Wildcat Fun Run5k, and the Homecoming parade all leading up to the homecoming football game on Saturday the 24 at 2:00 p.m at the Superior Dome. Be there to support your fellow ‘Cats!
Excited to show off the beautiful place you now call home? Parent weekend is a time to invite your parents to be a part of your college experience. With events planned that are fun for the whole family, you can join them all or spend time with your parents on your own time. We recommend taking them on a hike, the views never get old!

Northern Michigan Artist Discovery (NoMAD) is a student-led campus group that brings up and coming musical artists to campus, free of charge to students. On October 1, 2022 NoMAD will be hosting their first show. In the past, NoMAD shows have been nothing short of a terrific experience. Have you ever been interested in rock climbing outdoors right here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula? If you answered yes you’re in luck. The South Superior Climbing Club is a student run organization that helps connect people who have a common interest: rock climbing. No gear or experience is needed to join the club. Looking for a place to score some fresh produce? The Downtown Market Farmer’s Market has got you covered! The farmer’s market supports local farmers, growers, and artisans by providing quality food and goods to our community. It’s a genuine experience you won’t want to miss.
The market happens twice per week: Wednesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. (until September 21) and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (until November 19).
Part of what makes Marquette such a great place to live is the people who live here. Make a Difference day is an event put on to give back to the community.
