I found that the collaboration and team building was the most memorable. Combining all of the different team players and skill sets and seeing how they all connect and form a group of excellent expertise was truly inspiring.
My experience at Invent@NMU forced me to consider that I don’t exactly have to work for someone to find success, and that I could build that all on my own. I found that after graduation, job opportunities in my field were extremely scarce unless I moved very far away and spent cash I simply didn’t have. That’s where being an entrepreneur made much more sense.
I think looking for an opportunity where you didn’t expect to find it. I was always under the impression of having to apply for a job and seeing if I was lucky enough, and if I was, the rest was history. But everyone has the ability to bypass this process if they want and take charge of their career their own way. Entrepreneurship seems a bit daunting, and even seems like only folks like Elon Musk can find success being one. What I ended up finding is that small business owners are everywhere and in all conceivable fields, and they drive not only large tech hubs, but also small town main streets. My advice is to invest a little bit of yourself into being your own boss, and if you find you like it, and are hungry for what being an entrepreneur entails, I recommend you embrace it, and possibly provide great jobs for others over time.
