Memorable Experiences

One of Kate’s most memorable experiences at Invent@NMU was hearing the diverse range of ideas that community members brought to the table. She found it fascinating to learn about the unique ways people come up with solutions to problems, what inspires them, and the visions they have for their ideas. “Our team had great synergy,” she recalls, “and we were really talented at brainstorming and collaborating to help clients take their projects to the next level.” This experience not only deepened her appreciation for innovation but also highlighted the power of teamwork and creativity in turning ideas into reality.

Invent@NMU Impact

Real-world Client Experience

Working with the Invent@NMU team for two years provided Kate with invaluable experience that complemented her education. Although her major wasn’t in the College of Business, her time at Invent taught her key aspects of business and entrepreneurship, allowing her to offer effective guidance to clients. Kate worked directly with clients on a daily basis, taking ownership of her projects while also benefiting from excellent mentorship provided by the Innovate Marquette team. Though she’s no longer in the same role, the skills she developed—such as communication, project management, and problem-solving—have been essential in her career. Additionally, her work at Invent helped her expand her network, connecting her with business professionals and entrepreneurs in the community. “It’s incredible to see how far the entrepreneurs I worked with have come since then,” she says, reflecting on the lasting impact of her time at Invent.

Advice to Current NMU Students

Kate’s advice to current students is to immerse yourself in the community. “Marquette is such a beautiful place with a vibrant, engaged community,” she says. “There are countless ways to get involved and find your sense of belonging.” Whether it’s spending time at local businesses, attending events around town, or connecting with others, Kate encourages students to make the most of their time in Marquette. Engaging with the community, she believes, not only enriches your college experience but also helps create lasting connections and a deeper sense of fulfillment.
