Memorable Experiences

One of Sarah’s most memorable experiences was working alongside David Ollila, the founder of Invent@NMU. Collaborating with him was not only a positive experience but also deeply inspiring. His passion for innovation and mentorship helped shape Sarah’s time at Invent and provided invaluable learning opportunities that have stayed with her throughout her career.

Invent@NMU Impact

Real-world Client Experience

Creating the infographic for Invent@NMU provided Sarah with invaluable real-world client experience while she was studying graphic design at NMU. This project allowed her to gain hands-on experience in designing for large format print, communicating directly with clients, organizing data, and working within established brand guidelines to create a cohesive design. It was an excellent opportunity to apply her skills in a practical setting and helped bridge the gap between her academic studies and professional work.

Advice to Current NMU Students

Sarah’s advice to current students is to seek out internships or one-off client projects. “These experiences are invaluable for gaining practical skills outside the classroom and will give you a head start when graduation comes around,” she says. Getting hands-on experience not only enhances your portfolio but also helps you develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed in your career.
