Marketing Assistant

Memorable Experiences

Brittany joined Invent@NMU at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic—a time that brought unexpected challenges and required a rapid shift to remote work. While adapting to this new environment was initially difficult, she quickly found innovative ways to collaborate and stay connected with her team. Communication took place primarily through Zoom and Slack, but as the weather improved, the team got creative with safe, in-person connections. They organized socially distanced hikes, walks, and even virtual picnics, fostering a strong sense of community and team spirit despite the physical distance. For Brittany, this experience highlighted the importance of adaptability, creative problem-solving, and maintaining human connection in the face of uncertainty.

Invent@NMU Impact

Real-World Client Experience

As a student marketing assistant, Brittany played a pivotal role in the rebranding of a local yoga studio. Her work involved conducting in-depth market research to better understand the target audience, developing a refreshed brand identity, and creating marketing materials that reflected the studio’s values and services. She collaborated closely with a student graphic designer to shape the new logo and color palette, and together they presented a comprehensive branding strategy to the client. This hands-on project gave Brittany valuable technical skills such as content marketing and KPI development, as well as essential soft skills like communication, collaboration, and client relationship management. These experiences proved foundational to her current role as a Customer Success Manager, where both strategic thinking and interpersonal skills are key to helping clients thrive.

Advice to Current NMU Students

Brittany’s advice to current students is simple but powerful: get involved, ask questions, and build relationships. “Relationships are everything,” she emphasizes, reflecting on how the connections she made during her time at NMU helped shape her career path. She encourages students not to hesitate when it comes to reaching out—whether it's asking professors for guidance or connecting with alumni. “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there,” she says. “Network, network, network!”
